SQIT AND VIPs TO CELEBRATE ‘CENTENARY OF TAFE IN TOOWOOMBA’
Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE (SQIT) hosted 70 VIP guests for a morning tea at its Open Day on Tuesday 14 August to celebrate a number of significant events including a 100 year anniversary.
The event is fully catered by SQIT’s hospitality students and hosted Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts MP who represented the Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek among others.

The event acknowledged the ‘Centenary of TAFE in Toowoomba’, celebrated SQIT’s annual Open Day, and was used to congratulate WorldSkills Southern Queensland Region finalists who will compete in the national final to be held in Sydney, 30 August to 1 September.


The centenary celebrations will included an exhibition in the Futures Gallery, featuring a pictorial history of SQIT from its beginnings as the first technical college in Toowoomba in 1912 right through to the current day.

After the opening guests were invited to participate in Open Day festivities, which included campus tours and twenty try-a-trade activities.
Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE is a 2012 Queensland Training Awards finalist for the Large Training Provider of the Year category.
