ART PHOTOGRAPHY STUDENTS GIVE CHRONICLE A ‘MAKEOVER’
Toowoomba’s iconic ‘The Chronicle’ newspaper has received a creative makeover all in the name of art, as part of a Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE (SQIT) photography project.
The makeover, produced by SQIT art photography students, uses the 10 May edition of the publication to demonstrate a collision of newspaper content and artistic views, in an ‘artist’s book’ format.
SQIT Photoimaging Teacher Doug Spowart said he was proud of his students’ work and believed that the books offered insightful commentary about Toowoomba and its community.
“The Chronicle has been cut-up, spray painted, words cut out and reassembled, with students making their own artistic statement about the news items and retelling the news as they see it, having read between the lines,” Mr Spowart said.
The artists’ books are available at an exhibition viewing from 4–17 September at SQIT’s Futures Foyer Gallery, 100 Bridge Street, Toowoomba.
